Welcome back to The Circle! It’s great to see so many children cycling, scooting and walking to school in the morning. This works well because there is no space for parking apart from disabled bays. Unfortunately, there has been an increasing number of cars parking in front of the school gates, which is a health and safety risk for our children. We are in the process of applying for Safer Streets, but in the meanwhile we ask that if you are driving, please park your car on a neighbouring street and walk up to the school. Have a wonderful weekend when it arrives. Best wishes, Andi

Our Values in Action:

Reception-Joy and kindness

This week, the children have been fully immersed in imaginative play in our outdoor area. They've had so much fun using our wooden linking blocks to create ships, cars, and boats, transforming their ideas into exciting adventures. It’s been wonderful to watch as they develop their collaboration skills, working together to bring their creations to life. They are adding lots of props to support their narratives, like making maps and sails. We can’t wait to see what inventive ideas they come up with next week!

Year 1 – Curiosity and Joy

The Year 1 children are still having a great time with our Great Fire of London project, and their curiosity and excitement are really apparent. This week, they had so much fun in the mud kitchen area, where they learned how houses were built in 1666. They were especially fascinated by the wattle and daub technique used to create the walls and eagerly tried to recreate a house from that time. They showed so much joy as they explored history in such a hands-on way, and it was wonderful to see them so engaged and excited about what they were learning.

Year 2 – Curiosity and Kindness.

The children this week have been investigating our local area and the 2012 Olympics. We have been looking at the positive and negative effects the Olympics had on Stratford, the children have been so engaged with this and have thought about it from different aspects. They then create news reports using the green screen to share their findings.

Year 3 – Curiosity

This week in Year 3 we have been lucky to visit the Sugar House Island Alveole Beekeepers. We learnt all about how to harvest honey and the children even investigated the process of how to pot honey. The children had an amazing time, they were amazed by the process and asked lots of wonderful questions to find out even more information

Community Corner:

Bow roundabout update

You may have seen info at reception about construction works at Bow Roundabout. You may be aware that one of our campaigns has been to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers around Bow Roundabout, and, unfortunately the construction works are not currently responding to any of our requests. I plan to petition TfL again to ask whether they can incorporate any of our requests as part of their works. If you have any feedback about which of these would be more important to you can you email me so that I can emphasise what’s most important for our collective voice: [email protected]

Thanks!
Martha

  • Signage indicating there are children crossing
  • Planting around the edge of the central roundabout area that pedestrians cross for child safety
  • Make crosswalks more visible to prevent cars driving through
  • Create visual markings on the road to make it clearer to cars they are entering a new zone
  • Add floor art to the central zone to direct pedestrians towards the crossings (currently lack visibility)
  • Introduce new lighting to make it brighter at night
  • Add planting on the roundabout and along the pedestrian walkways leading to the roundabout to help with ambiance, noise, air pollution
  • Work with the local artist community to create a mural on the underside of the flyover

Tomorrow’s climate Scientist!

Year 2 children became little researchers this term and began a project called Tomorrow’s Climate Scientists, a programme funded by The Royal Society. They will investigate whether planting more trees in the school playground and their work in the garden reduces air pollution. They will also think about how they can use their voices and skills to contribute to a healthier environment.

First, they explored nature's hidden, beautiful, and fascinating side this week. Working in small groups, they researched and presented to the class less-known facts about plants, animals, fungi, groundwater, oceans, sounds of the universe and how Indigenous people protect their lands and waters. One child stated how we have to be careful of the hidden things in the environment because it could cause pollution.

Love 4 reading

To promote the love of reading, we give every child a book for their birthday that they can keep and this is supported through your kind donations. Thank you to everyone who has donated books so far. We really appreciate it. If you'd like to donate more books, here's the link: Love4Reading Each purchase benefits the school and helps us buy even more books! Even better, share the link with friends and family. Thank you!

Link to pay for breakfast club and the school trip:

We will be moving our Student Management Information System (MIS) to Arbor in September 2024 and we are no longer using Reach More Parents (WEDUC) to take online payments for trips and the breakfast club. Please use this link to purchase breakfast club places and for trip payments.

Breakfast club opens from 7:50am Children need to arrive before 8.30 to join the breakfast club. If parents arrive at 8.30 or later they will be asked to wait at the main gate until 8.40, because the breakfast club is closed and children are already being taken to their various classes. If a child arrives a few minutes before the club closes, they can still eat breakfast in the classroom as we would never want a child to go without breakfast. It’s the case for all parents that if they let a member of staff know in the morning that their child hasn’t eaten breakfast, they will always be offered and encouraged to eat something as this is best for their wellbeing and learning.

We will be asking for a contribution of £2 per day. We can offer a discount for siblings and this cost does not affect families eligible for Free School Meals. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please contact the School office and we will do our best to help. Thanks for your understanding.
