Welcome back to The Circle! This half term, in assembly the children have been focusing on our value of kindness. This is evident throughout the school in the way the children show kindness to themselves, one another and the environment. I hope you enjoy reading about how the other values are being lived in our school community, especially curiosity! With community in mind, please remember to join the community cafe on a Thursday morning after drop off, even if only for a short while. If you are unable to attend but wish to donate to the foodbank, that would also be very much appreciated. Have a wonderful weekend when it arrives. Best wishes, Andi

Our Values in Action:

Rec: Curiosity and Joy

The children have had a fantastic start to the second half of the autumn term! This week, they’ve been engaged in a wide variety of activities, including helping our resident gardener, Xuan, construct beautiful flower beds in the reception garden. Over the coming weeks, the children will participate in planting a diverse selection of plants and seeds, watching them grow throughout the year. They’re eagerly anticipating the transformation of this space!

Year 1 – Curiosity

What an exciting start to the new half term! Year 1 children received a surprise visit from a time traveller, William, who arrived all the way from the year 1666! William mysteriously appeared in our classroom just as we opened our book about the Great Fire of London and shared fascinating details about what life was like in London back then. The city was bustling, crowded, and—according to William—very smelly! He explained how, without electricity, people used candles to light their homes and relied on fires to keep warm. We also learned about the Great Plague and its devastating impact on London’s population. Interestingly, William didn’t know anything about the Great Fire that would soon change his city forever!

Year 2 – Curiosity

The children have had a brilliant first week back! They have been so engaged in our new Olympic topic! This week they have really enjoyed collaborating in teams to create their Olympic project which they presented on Friday. They showed resilience when researching about the early and modern olympic games, collaborated when crafting their own model of the original olympic stadium and also showed courage when creating a video of the information they have found.

Y3 – Curiosity

For this half term’s project, year 3 will become geologists. This week they have examined some pebbles and created detailed oil pastel drawings and wonderful poems! They will continue to examine the journey of a pebble and look at the history of the earth.

Community Corner:

Olympic athlete celebration!

Mason, in Year One, attended a celebration and met Julien Alfred, a Saint Lucian sprinter. She won the gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in the 100 metres, setting a new national record of 10.72s in the final. Her medal was the first-ever Olympic medal for Saint Lucia! She then won a silver in the 200 metres. If your child has an achievement that you would like to share in the newsletter, please let Fahmida in the office know.

Love 4 reading

To promote the love of reading, we give every child a book for their birthday that they can keep and this is supported through your kind donations. Thank you to everyone who has donated books so far. We really appreciate it. If you'd like to donate more books, here's the link: Love4Reading Each purchase benefits the school and helps us buy even more books! Even better, share the link with friends and family. Thank you!

Breakfast Club and After School club

Link to pay for breakfast club and the school trip:

We will be moving our Student Management Information System (MIS) to Arbor in September 2024 and we are no longer using Reach More Parents (WEDUC) to take online payments for trips and the breakfast club. Please use this link to purchase breakfast club places and for trip payments.

Breakfast club opens from 7:50am Children need to arrive before 8.30 to join the breakfast club. If parents arrive at 8.30 or later they will be asked to wait at the main gate until 8.40, because the breakfast club is closed and children are already being taken to their various classes. If a child arrives a few minutes before the club closes, they can still eat breakfast in the classroom as we would never want a child to go without breakfast. It’s the case for all parents that if they let a member of staff know in the morning that their child hasn’t eaten breakfast, they will always be offered and encouraged to eat something as this is best for their wellbeing and learning.

We will be asking for a contribution of £2 per day. We can offer a discount for siblings and this cost does not affect families eligible for Free School Meals. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please contact the School office and we will do our best to help. Thanks for your understanding.
